Outreach Ministries

When Jesus walked the earth, He reached out to anyone who would listen and sought to show them the powerful love of God in practical ways.  He has called us to do the same.  On this page, you will find several ways in which you can use your life to bless others.  You are not just welcome to be part of these ministries - want we you to get involved!

  • Baptist Women on Mission

    The Baptist Women on Mission (Women's Missionary Union) offers organizations and approaches, as well as ministries, that enable every member of the church to learn about missions, become involved in missions, and living a missional lifestyle.  Join us the fourth Thursday of each month to learn, pray, worship, and fellowship as we seek to advance the cause of Christ at home and abroad!  Contact Linda Willis for more information.

  • Churches United in Christ Help Ministry (CUICHM)

    CUICHM is a joint effort of five downtown churches to provide financial assistance mostly with utility bills, but also gasoline for doctor visits, medicine, or transportation.  You can serve by greeting or meeting with clients.  Contact Rodney Vincent for more information.

  • Handicap Ramp Building Ministry

    We work in the community to build ramps for those in need.  Anyone at any skill level is needed these ramps that will provide individuals an avenue for increased mobility and independent living.  Contact Rodney Vincent for more information.

  • Helping Hands

    Helping Hands is a benevolence and food closet ministry that is open to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. each week.  You can serve by donating food, greeting clients, meeting with clients, retrieving food from the food pantry, and praying with clients.   • Meals on wheels

    One Saturday every 13 weeks, First Baptist Church is responsible for ensuring that Meals on Wheels clients receive the food they need for the weekend.  We typically need around 40 volunteers to help prepare, package, and deliver food.  Contact Rodney Vincent for more information.

  • operation inasmuch

    Operation Inasmuch is based on Jesus' words in Matthew 25:40 when He said, "Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you [served] one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."  Based on these words, the church sets aside an entire day to show the community God's love through acts of service at various times.  Consult the bulletin for upcoming Operation Inasmuch activities.

  • Prayer Shawl Ministry

    The Prayer Shawl Ministry exists to meet the needs of individuals within and outside our church fellowship.  Knitted and crocheted prayer shawls provide tangible evidence of God's love, peace, and comfort, and they are accompanied by the prayers from a sisterhood of Christian believers.  You are welcome to join us the second Monday of each month from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Parlor.  Contact Janet Kay Brown for more information. 

  • Regional & International Missions

    First Baptist Church has long been committed to taking the Gospel message to the ends of the earth.  Support missions at First Baptist by praying with us for specific missionaries every Wednesday night in Prayer Meeting, by participating with our Baptist Women on Mission, by giving to special offerings like Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong, and by participating in various short-term mission trips offered by the church.  For more information, contact John Beach.

  • room in the Inn Ministry

    During the winter months, First Baptist Church joins with other area churches to provide bimonthly shelter for the homeless.  You can serve by providing and/or serving food, staying overnight as an innkeeper, or attending for a portion of the time to greet and encourage our guests.  Contact Rodney Vincent for more information.

  • Television Broadcast Ministry

    God has blessed us with the opportunity to broadcast our Sunday morning worship services live each week via WBKO-TV and throughout the week via Time Warner Cable Channel 6 and Scottsville's WPBM.  You can serve as a camera operator or in any number of behind-the-scenes technical capacities to ensure that the message of the Gospel reaches our viewing audience as clearly and excellently as possible.  Contact Joyce Light for more information.
